Book Updates

Remember that post about all my books?  I thought, since it's been almost a month, I should update you on what I've read and what I thought about it!

This was my pile of books:

So far I have read....drumroll...not a single one.  HAHA!!!  I am serious!  I have all those books and I haven't read one.  Ridiculous!

I have, however, read 5 1/2 other books not on my list...actually, the 1/2 was on the list.

So here's what I've read so far:
1)  "My Fair Lazy" by Jen Lancaster.  I LOVE HER.  She is absolutely hilarious.  I actually laugh out loud when I read her memoirs.  She's sarcastic, witty, and often thinks just like I do.  I highly, highly recommend anything written by her.

2) I read "Even Now" by Karen Kingsbury at the beach in one day.  It was mindless chick lit dribble, but I couldn't put it down.  It was the perfect beach read.  Plus, it is one of Kindle's Top 100 FFREEEEE books!  Got a Kindle?  Get this book!

3) I finished "Blue Like Jazz" by Donald Miller yesterday.  (One of his other books is in my big old pile of books)  I had high hopes for this book.  Many, many people I know have told me they read this book in one day...that they loved it...that it changed their view of Christianity.  I had none of these feelings.  It was just okay for me.   I saw Donaly Miller speak last year, and I thought he was terrific.  Maybe I just didn't care for his writing style, I don't know.  I liked it alright, but it didn't rock my world.

4) One day on the beach I read "Mr. Tucket" by Gary Paulsen.  Yes, I just said that.  I spent a day on the beach reading a Gary Paulsen book (Language Arts teachers, you may be the only people who appreciate this).  It was good!  Next up - writing questions so my students can read it too.  Good times.

5) Currently, I'm almost finished Jillian Michaels' "Master Your Metabolism".  It's a pretty extreme book in regards to going organic, hormones in our foods, pesticides, etc.  It's been educating, and has been making me think about what I have been eating.  I'm not sure I'm going to subscribe to all of Jillian's suggestions, but she does have a lot of excellent points.  Between this book, and my friend Laura's new blog, I am starting to think towards more whole, organic, quality foods.  Hmmm...(I type this as I sit eating a bagel with cream cheese, but at least I am drinking organic coffee...haha!)

1/2) I did start the book on the bottom of my pile, "Big Girl" by Danielle Steel. I abandoned it about half way through because it was TERRIBLE. It was awful. Mindless dribble. (okay, most of my chick lit books are mindless dribble, this was worse) This was absolutely awful. The main character was flat and didn't draw me into her story at all. Usually, even a bad book I will finish because I just need to know how it ends. For "Big Girl" - I just didn't care. Don't waste your time on this book.

I also read 5 magazines while at the beach, and have 2 more in my bag for my last day beachside today!  Next on the book agenda is "Promises to Keep" by one of my favorite chick lit authors, Jane Green.

  1. I see Hissy Fit in that pile of yours. I thought it was funny, but I have enjoyed most of Mary Kay Andrews books....

  2. Oh, I think I'll have to try My Fair Lazy and Even Now- I LOVE Karen Kingsbury- is this one going to make me cry as much as her others have? I don't mind a tearful book, but don't think I want to be bawling on the beach- haha! Thanks for the link, too ;)
