If you were to open my fridge right now, you'd quickly discover that I have a mild obsession with nut butters. The varieties you see in the picture are all kinds of almond, peanut, cashew, walnut, craziness.
A few weeks ago, I stopped in at a local bakery/farm/market (Brown's for my local friends) and came across these little packets of nut butter...
...and of course I couldn't resist them!
When I got home, I did a little internet research and discovered that these packets are made locally by a company called Blind Spot Nut Butters. After I did a little more reading about the company's philosophy and story - I was hooked! (it also helps that their butters are AH-MAZING!)
Sheri and Troy founded their company after Troy's diagnosis with a degenerative retinal disease (hence the name "Blind Spot). They are seeking to take Troy's disability and turn it into something positive for their family - and for others! A portion of their proceeds go to support research for retinal disease. Read more about them and their business in this article from our local paper!
So other than a great company philosophy, being locally made, and just plain delicious - what else makes BSNB unique? For one thing, I'd say the texture of their butters. BSNB uses a meat grinder instead of a traditional nut grinder - and it produces this thick nut butter. Also, their ingredients are 100% REAL FOOD. They are things like nuts, sweetener (molasses, honey, and/or cane sugar), and seeds. That's it - no fillers, no emulsifiers, no chemicals you can't pronounce.
The flavors and blends are also unique! I'd tell you what my favorite is but...I don't have one because I love them all. Some of their flavors include:
Sea Salt Caramel (regular and chocolate)
Chocolate PB Pretzel
Birds and Bees (nut butter + chia, millet, flax, and sunflower seeds)
Cinnamon Roll (seriously - it's like a Cinnabon in a jar - great on pancakes!)
Squirrelly Tail (nut butter + flax, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds)
Super Squirrelly (Squirrelly Tail + dried cranberries and apples)
They also offer seasonal flavors like Sugar Cookie, White Chocolate Cherry, Tropical, and It's a Zoo (nut butter + banana chips and chocolate and animal crackers!).
You can buy BSNB at several local places in York County - but if you're not local, you can order online too! They sell 1.25 oz sample squeeze packs and 12 oz glass jars. Click here to shop!
I used the Sea Salt Caramel to make these Flourless Cookies from Sally's Baking Addiction and they were a HUGE hit!
I also love any of the flavors on top of toast, waffles, or pancakes! It's great on apples, with carrot chips, and straight out of the jar.
