I remember the first time I read this quote. It actually brought tears to my eyes because it is so true.
Marathon training has been a humbling experience in a lot of ways. I feel like I've had more tough runs and off days than I have had since I started running. I don't enjoy running in the hot weather, and the humidity always slows me down. That's true for most runners. There are many articles published about the effects of humidity on running. It makes running slower. It sometimes makes running feel more like swimming. It was difficult to go through most of my marathon training and feel like I was slow and struggling.
But, it's still a blessing to be able to run. I think about this quote on every long run. I have moments where I am just running along, grinning like a big dork, thinking about how blessed I am to be running -- and enjoying it!
