This post is a little later than I wanted it to be, but oh well. Consider it an extension of Christmas!
This year for Christmas, I flew the friendly skies to sunny Southern California! The advantage of flying West is that my plane left Baltimore at 9:25am and arrived in San Diego at 12:20! Thank you, time change!
chauffeurs parents picked me up at the airport and after a brief stop at the motor home, we visited Coronado. I got a kick out of seeing people ice skate in short sleeves with palm trees in the background!
I ended the day with a quick 2 mile run. The motor home was stationed on Mission Bay, where there's a beautiful paved path that runs around the bay. Check out that sunset!
For my 2nd day in Cali, we headed out for one of our favorite activities - hiking. My mom and I have both read the book Wild by Cheryl Strayed (the movie version is in theaters now!), so we got a kick out of hiking part of the PCT that Cheryl hikes in the book!
This is what a lot of the hiking looked like. It didn't seem terrible at the time, but was probably not a smart idea 2 days before running a half marathon. Oh well!
Day 3 was a "rest the legs" day, so we just did some driving around and sightseeing. Day 4 I ran the half marathon and saw "Wild" in the theater with my mom in the evening!
Day 5...we hiked again! My one requested activity (besides the race) was to hike to "Potato Chip Rock". Apparently, everyone else in California also thought this was a good idea because the line to take a picture on the actual rock was LONG. I was surprised at the number of people who took on this hike - it's a beast! It's 7ish miles round trip, and it's elevation is intense (see the picture at the bottom)!!
It was a great trip! My legs were definitely tired after 30 intense miles in just a few days. I think they're still tired - haha!!
